Meta's new AI glasses landed in the UAE on announcement day: Meta Glasses from AED 1,160, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 from AED 1,960

Meta hardware usually reaches us months after the US, through an importer. This time is different: the UAE was one of the four markets where Meta opened orders for its new glasses on Connect day itself (alongside Singapore, South Korea and Mexico). Gulf News published the local prices this morning.

UAE prices
| Model | UAE | US | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Glasses (Starfire, Adventurer, Capri) | from AED 1,160 | from $249 (≈ AED 915) | ≈ +27% |
| Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 (Wayfarer, Aviator, Zena) | from AED 1,960 | from $449 (≈ AED 1,650) | ≈ +19% |
| Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and Oakley Meta | Available locally; no official price change | — | — |
| Ray-Ban Meta Audio (no camera) | No UAE price yet | $349, ships October 13 | — |
The gap covers VAT, shipping and distributor margin, and it's smaller than we're used to from importers (who were selling Gen 2 at AED 1,800+). Gulf News didn't name retailers; ordering is currently through Meta's official channels in the UAE.
What's the difference between the models?
Meta Glasses is the new, cheaper line under Meta's own name rather than Ray-Ban: three shapes (Starfire, Adventurer, Capri) plus the limited clear Fury, prescription support, and two special editions: Kylie Jenner in Ivory, and LISA of BLACKPINK with an Adventurer "Moonlit Sky" frame and blush lenses and a Capri "Eclipse" cat-eye. Confirmed for the UAE: Starfire in Ivory and both LISA editions.
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 is the direct upgrade of last year's glasses: slimmer frame, 12MP camera with 3K video, six microphones Meta says cut 90% of background noise, 9-hour battery (one hour more), and a new customisable Action button that opens Meta AI directly. In the UAE: Aviator (the 90th-anniversary edition) and Zena (cat-eye).
What hasn't changed
Meta AI on the glasses still doesn't officially support Arabic, and Gulf News mentions no change there. So camera, audio and calls are excellent, but "Hey Meta, what am I looking at" stays in English.
My take
The real news isn't the price; it's that Meta now treats the UAE as a first-wave market rather than a "later" one. That means official support, local warranty and updates on time. If you want smart glasses without a camera for calls and music, wait for Audio at $349: lighter (43 g) and longer battery (12 hours). If you want the camera, Gen 3 at AED 1,960 is a better deal than the imported Gen 2 that sold for the same money last year.
