OnePlus 15 gets stable ColorOS 17 on Android 17, officially the end of OxygenOS

What OnePlus announced in July is now real: the OnePlus 15 is receiving stable ColorOS 17 based on Android 17, build CPH2745_17.0.0.102(EX01), in India first. The official schedule said October 29, so the update landed days early, which is rare. Android Authority adds that the OnePlus Pad 4 is getting it too, with the 15R, 13 and 13s next in line.
What is new
| Interface | New Luminous Rendering Engine for light effects and animation; redesigned lock screen, quick settings and notification drawer |
|---|---|
| Performance | Upgraded Laminar Flow Engine to cut lag under memory pressure and keep the right apps alive in the background |
| AI | Agent mode in Mind Pilot for multi-step tasks (sorting photos and files), document scanning in OSee, a new Translate app |
| Protection | Face-swap detection on video calls and AI-generated voice detection on scam calls |
| Audio | Simultaneous audio from more than one app |
Why it matters
This is the first update to actually move a OnePlus device from OxygenOS to ColorOS, and the company said all eligible devices in all regions will do the same with Android 17. OnePlus left Europe and North America in July but said nothing about the Middle East, and the OnePlus 15 is sold here. There is no Gulf date yet; watch Settings, About device, as the rollout is staged. My advice: back up before tapping update, because moving between two systems is not a routine patch.
My take
OxygenOS was the reason to buy a OnePlus for years, and ColorOS has effectively been its base since 2022, so today’s change is more name than substance. What does matter is features like AI-voice detection on scam calls, very useful in a region where fraud calls are a daily thing. But what I am waiting for from OnePlus is not an update, it is one clear sentence about its future in the Gulf.
