’SMS of Death’: a text you never see can kill your calls on Android, and the fix is in the October patch only for Android 14 and newer
A researcher disclosed CVE-2026-58882: a malformed WAP Push SMS, invisible in the inbox and needing no tap, crashes the phone service and drops the active call, emergency calls included; around 20 repeats can leave the device unusable. Google patched it in the October 2026 update for Android 14–17; Android 12 and 13 stay exposed.
