Privacy policy
This page explains in plain language what data slorks.io collects, why, and who it is shared with. Short version: we collect as little as possible and never sell your data.
Who we are
slorks.io ("the site", "we") is a technology blog run by Slorks. Privacy contact: hello@slorks.io.
What we collect
1. Browsing without an account
We ask for no personal data. Your preferences (language, dark mode, content order) are stored in your browser's local storage on your device and never reach us.
2. If you create an account
We store your email address, the display name you choose, your avatar if you upload one, and the creation date. If you sign in with Google we receive only your email, name and picture; we cannot access anything else in your Google account. Passwords are stored hashed; we never see them.
3. Your activity
Comments, likes, ratings and poll answers are stored against your account so we can display them and prevent duplicates. Comments are public under your chosen display name.
4. Technical data
Like any website, our servers temporarily log IP addresses and browser type for security and abuse prevention; these logs are deleted automatically within 30 days.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. Our statistics tool uses no cookies and does not track you across sites (we see how many people read a page, not who). Advertising (below) may set its own cookies.
Advertising
We show ads through Google AdSense and may show direct ads from partners. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites; you can opt out of personalised ads at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. How Google handles data is described here. Direct partner ads receive no data about you from us.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data or share it for marketing. We use technical providers that process data on our behalf and on our instructions only: Supabase (database and accounts), Vercel (hosting), Resend (sign-in emails) and Google (sign-in and ads). We may disclose data where the law requires it.
Retention and your rights
We keep account data for as long as your account exists. You can edit your name and avatar at any time on your profile page, or request a copy of your data or full deletion of your account by emailing hello@slorks.io; we respond within 30 days. On deletion your personal data is removed and your comments remain without a name.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy we update the date at the top of the page and, for material changes, notify registered members.
