YouTube removes the Subscriptions button from the bottom bar after 9 years and moves it to the top of Home, and launches Custom Feeds you describe in your own words

Custom Feeds:
Home |
|---|---|
Digital Trends |

Since 2017 the Subscriptions button has been the fourth icon in YouTube’s bottom bar. From today it starts to disappear: YouTube announced a redesign of the Home page on Android and iOS that moves subscriptions to a top bar labelled Subs, right after Home, followed by Live, Music and Movies & TV tabs (the last appears only with an active subscription such as Primetime Channels). The old side drawer goes away entirely.

Custom Feeds: a feed you write in your own words
The second and bigger addition is Custom Feeds. Tap + at the top of Home and type what you want to see: a topic, a content type, specific channels, or even a mood. YouTube builds a personalised feed that updates as new videos arrive, and a text box above the feed lets you change it. Free accounts keep 3 active feeds, Premium keeps 8. They work on mobile and the web, sync between them, and replace the old topic chips at the top of the page.

| Custom Feeds | 3 for free accounts · 8 for Premium · requires watch and search history on |
| Rollout | Custom Feeds now for signed-in viewers 13+ in the US with English settings, more countries later; the top bar is still a “test” per Digital Trends |
Why it matters
Arabic and the Gulf aren’t in the first wave, so what reaches you soon is the bottom-bar change, with Custom Feeds following at an unannounced date. If you rely on the Subscriptions button to follow your channels without the algorithm, it is now one tap further away and tucked inside Home. For Gulf creators, it means reaching subscribers will depend more on the algorithm and less on the button that brought people straight to your new video.
My take
I spend most of my time in the app on the Subscriptions tab, because it is the only place where I decide what to watch rather than the algorithm. Moving it up isn’t the end of the world, but the message is clear: YouTube wants Home to be the only front door. Custom Feeds are a good idea; a feed of “Arabic phone reviews, no news” will be the first one I make. But 3 feeds for free accounts is stingy, and it is clearly designed to push you to Premium.
